Chester – The place to be this Christmas

Chester – The place to be this Christmas Tis the season to be jolly and Chester has every reason to celebrate after being voted Great Britain’s number one place to be this Christmas. The search, led by Best Western Hotels, revealed the ancient Roman settlement, nestled on the Welsh borders in Cheshire, is Great Britain’s favourite festive destination.

Chester was selected because it offers a unique blend of medieval atmosphere and modern entertainment throughout the Christmas period.

With an abundance of festive activity, Best Western, the largest group of independently owned and managed hotels in Great Britain, has appointed its very own Director of Christmas, Declan Austin, to manage all festivities.

Speaking about his role, Declan said: “My job is to make sure no humbugs spoil the festive fun as well as working with Santa’s little helpers to scour the nation and find the perfect winter wonderland.

“We had many nominations but with everything from Christmas markets and mulled wine to log cabins and Frost Fairs, Chester goes that extra mile and really is full of seasons greetings and glad tidings.

“It’s a beautiful place to visit at this time of year with Lantern Parades, stunning lights and seasonal entertainment

“Not only that, Chester zoo is also set to be transformed into a winter wonderland for all the family.”

Other towns and cities that made the top 10 include: Battle, East Sussex, Belfast, York, Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Edinburgh, Lincoln, Ashbourne, and Delph.

Those who nominated their favourite winter wonderland, have the chance of winning a short break with a night for two at a Best Western hotel near one of the final Top 10 Christmas destinations.

The hunt for Great Britain’s favourite festive destination is part of Best Western’s celebration of the individuality of many things British, including the individuality of its 290 independent hotels across the country - of which four are in and around Chester!
