It’ll be lonely this Christmas as Brits leave the country

It’ll be lonely this Christmas as Brits leave the country It seems the meaning of Christmas is changing. Gone are the days of sitting round the log fire at home with the ones you love; now it’s about avoiding crowds and catching some rays! A survey of over 8000 ebookers.com customers showed that 1 in 4 of us will be going abroad this Christmas instead of spending it at home.

23% of people jetting off this Yule time will be taking their first trip abroad and 15% said that leaving the UK is part of their Christmas tradition. And it’s the beach as opposed to the slopes that are drawing ebookers.com customers away, as 42% of those travelling abroad said they are in pursuit of warmer climates and just 17% will be taking part in sporting activities.

Despite us leaving the country, it’s still for familiar ground. 65% of Christmas holiday makers will be travelling to a destination they have visited before and 22% will be with their whole family. 22% will be enjoying some quality time with their families, and perhaps the 25% travelling alone will be in search of some mistletoe?

And when ebookers.com customers get away, they go far away, with the majority taking long haul flights of over 10 hours. 38% are prepared to pay more for a trip at Christmas than on any other holiday in the year, so bonuses must be big this year!

Of those who are staying at home this Christmas, 90% would consider leaving the hectic preparation, drunken antics and rubbish gifts for a more relaxing time in a hot country.
