SWISS offers passengers tasty inflight treats

26th March 2007 Print
Swiss International Air Lines will be offering its customers tasty treats from Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland this spring. The new inflight attraction is the latest chapter in the airline’s innovative “SWISS Taste of Switzerland” culinary concept, which focuses on its home country’s varied regional cuisine.

Manfred Roth, chef de cuisine at the renowned Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotels & Spa, will be offering SWISS’s inflight customers culinary delights from Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland from mid March onwards. SWISS will be serving the new exclusive meals to its Swiss First and Swiss Business passengers on long-haul services from Switzerland (and also on selected inbound flights). Swiss Business customers on longer European flights departing from Switzerland will also be able to sample these regional specialities.

Manfred Roth has created a series of masterly new interpretations of traditional Bernese Oberland dishes featuring seasonal ingredients for the enjoyment of SWISS passengers aloft. Swiss First travellers on long-haul flights will be offered a starter of a fillet of veal poached in olive and thyme oil with artichokes, white balsamic vinegar and Parmesan-chilli crisp. The choice of main courses includes a filet mignon with truffle juice and olive tapenade, carrots and spinach risotto.

And, after a selection of Swiss cheeses, the dessert offer extends to a Chocolate Royale on hazelnut crunch with raspberry coulis, fresh raspberries and a “touch of gold”. The delightful dishes are accompanied by a carefully-selected range of Swiss and other wines that includes a “Frauenkopf” Twanner AOC 2004, a barriqued Pinot Noir from the vineyards above Lake Biel.

Under its “SWISS Taste of Switzerland” culinary concept, SWISS offers its customers an intriguing sample of its home country’s varied regional cuisines with their specialities and local produce. The programme, which was introduced in 2002, has already featured the cooking of various cantons including Basel, Valais, Ticino and Appenzell. “SWISS Taste of Switzerland” has also earned the inflight catering industry’s Mercury Award for its innovative approach.
