SWISS customers support Children’s Village in Phuket

30th March 2007 Print
SWISS customers are helping to build an SOS Children’s Village near Phuket in Thailand, thanks to their generosity last year. The money was raised through the “Your small change can make a big change” campaign, under which SWISS collects donations aboard its flights for the benefit of disadvantaged children.

SWISS passengers donated CHF 171 070 through the airline’s inflight change collections last year. These funds, together with those collected in 2007, will be devoted to a new SOS Children’s Village near Phuket, Thailand, where SWISS will be financing a house to provide ten children with a new home. Work on building the new Village has already begun.

The funds which SWISS collected through its “small change” campaign in 2005 were used to finance a house in the SOS Children’s Village in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. The first 25 children moved into the Dar Es SalaamVillage at the beginning of March. SWISS is delighted at the generosity shown by so many of its customers, which has helped to provide support for disadvantaged children all over the world.

SWISS has been collecting on behalf of SOS Children’s Villages International since September 2002, by inviting its passengers to place any loose change they no longer need in donation envelopes that are distributed aboard its flights. Coins and notes in over 150 currencies and worth a total of just under CHF 900,000 have been collected since the campaign began.
