SWISS puts additional family aircraft into operation

14th May 2007 Print
SWISS added a further Airbus A320 to its European fleet today. The aircraft, which bears the registration HB-IJH, took off from Zurich shortly after 07:00 this morning for Madrid on its first revenue flight. The arrival of the new transport concludes the expansion of the SWISS European Airbus fleet which was announced last autumn, and which has seen the company add five more A320-family aircraft to its European operations.

The new A320, which becomes the 74th aircraft in the SWISS fleet, accommodates 150 passengers and will be deployed on various routes throughout the SWISS European network. Business Class passengers on all SWISS’s A320-family aircraft will continue to enjoy the extra space and privacy that are provided by keeping the middle seat free. Each additional A320 that SWISS puts into service also creates around 25 new jobs among the company’s flying personnel.

It was to take advantage of the expected growth in European traffic volumes that SWISS resolved last year to add a further five aircraft to its European fleet. The first of the new transports entered service last December; and the arrival of Airbus A320 HB-IJH concludes the present fleet expansion, leaving SWISS with a European Airbus fleet that consists of seven A319, seventeen A320 and six A321 aircraft.
