SWISS to celebrate at EuroAirport

11th January 2008 Print
SWISS is to mark the first anniversary of the introduction of six new destinations to its EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg operations. And it will be doing so with the customers who have made the new services such a success: from January 14 onwards, SWISS will be giving away 40 free flights from Basel in various competitions and promotions.

Switzerland’s national airline will also open its EuroAirport lounge to all SWISS and Star Alliance customers on January 15. And on the same day the first “SWISS Soccer Tram” for the upcoming European football championships will take to the rails in Basel, and passers-by will have the chance to win one of ten free SWISS flights.

It’s almost a year now since SWISS increased its non-stop air connections from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg from four to ten destinations (the new services were introduced on January 15, 2007). Demand on the routes has shown encouraging trends. And, as these services reach their first birthday, SWISS will be saying a thank-you to its customers in the form of free flights.

Radio Basel 1 will be giving away five pairs of SWISS tickets between January 21 and 25. Each day, the presenter will draw a number between 1 and 31. Anyone whose birthday falls on that day will be able to call the station; and with a little luck they’ll soon be flying free to one of SWISS’s ten non-stop destinations from EuroAirport.

In view of the EuroAirport’s trinational catchment area, the celebrations are not limited to Switzerland, either. Readers of Southern Germany’s Badische Zeitung will have the chance to win one of five pairs of SWISS tickets; and the readers of Eastern France’s Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace could also be enjoying a free SWISS flight: the paper will be giving away ten of them in a prize draw for its readers in the next few days.

A Basel streetcar becomes the first SWISS Soccer Tram
SWISS is also putting a special “soccer tram” onto Basel’s streetcar network to mark the upcoming European football championships, which will be held in Switzerland and Austria in summer of this year. The No.15 tram will be sporting a special livery, including fan photos of SWISS employees, between now and the tournament’s end.

The tram will be formally unveiled by Basel Government Councillor Ralph Lewin on Basel’s Aeschenplatz on January 15, in a ceremony attended by a SWISS delegation and various media representatives. 3 000 cakes will also be on hand distributing among the audience and passers-by, ten of whom will also win a free SWISS flight from EuroAirport.

A lounge for all
Needless to say, SWISS will also be rewarding its customers and those of its Star Alliance partners who fly from the EuroAirport on January 15. The airport lounge, which is usually only available to SWISS Business travellers and higher-status Miles & More members, will be open on this day to all Economy Class travellers, too.
