Flybe welcomes a brighter greener future for air travel

15th December 2006 Print
Commenting on the Government’s progress report on the 2003 Air Transport White Paper, Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer said:

“Flybe fully supported the aims of Government’s 2003 White Paper and in particular the plans to expand regional airports allowing passengers to avoid London’s congested hubs.

“We welcome the Transport Secretary’s renewed commitment to the key principles set out in the White Paper, and look forward to working with the Government to achieve a bright future for Britain’s airlines in this highly competitive industry.”

Flybe has also welcomed the plans for an 'emissions cost assessment' to consider whether the aviation sector is meeting its external climate change costs.

Mike Rutter said, “We accept that we have a responsibility as one of Europe’s leading low cost airlines to reduce the carbon emissions produced by our aircraft.

“At the same time the impact of aviation on climate change has been wildly exaggerated by environmental activist groups, and we look forward to a new study that will finally look at the facts and provide a realistic assessment of the environmental cost of air travel.

“Next year Flybe will once again be demonstrating our commitment to the environment with the launch of an eco-labelling scheme. This will measure the carbon footprint, noise emissions and fuel burn of each airline’s fleet to empower passengers with the choice to go green when they are buying their ticket.”
