Flybe reveals UK’s top bank holiday travel hotspots
Despite the enticement of Spanish sun and sangria and French fromage and frogs’ legs, Britain is still tops with UK travellers for short breaks according to figures released by Flybe today. While the UK’s summer may have been a washout, hardy Brits would still rather take a break in the Channel Islands or Belfast than Malaga or Faro with 65% of Flybe passengers choosing domestic air travel for their weekend break.
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, will carry in excess of 76,000 passengers to a whole host of destinations across the UK and Europe over the Bank Holiday period, a 17% increase over last year’s figures.
The most popular route travelled by Brits is between London Gatwick and Guernsey, with over 2,500 travellers hopping across to the Channel Islands.
Edinburgh, Belfast and Southampton are also proving popular with their wealth of culture, history and proximity to the attractions of the South Coast likely proving a draw to tourists keen to head off for an extended weekend.
Flybe’s top 10 national routes for the August Bank Holiday are:
1. London Gatwick - Guernsey
2. London Gatwick - Belfast
3. London Gatwick - Jersey
4. Birmingham - Belfast
