Prime Ministerial approval for Flybe training
In a ceremony with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Flybe will achieve yet another significant national first – that of being named as one of only three companies in the UK to have achieved the high standards required to become an Awarding Body for Flybe’s own approved qualifications. The Exeter-based airline, employing 3000 staff, has long put training at the heart of its business and was the only UK airline to sign the Government Skills Pledge on 14th June 2007.
As a result of today’s accolade, Flybe will now be able to award certificates up to the equivalent of degree level. Flybe training programmes will confer qualifications from level 2 (GCSE at A*-C) to level 4 (degree) to its cabin and engineering crew.
Jim French, Flybe Chairman and Chief Executive said:
“This is a tremendous honour for Flybe and is testament to our first class training and development programmes.
“Our position alongside the two other major UK employers being given Awarding Body status is relevant not just because of the Sectors that they represent (both of which are very different) but because, as a business that sets and achieves high standards within a necessarily highly regulated industry, we have met the demanding Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) standards in our own right in our Sector – being the first airline in the UK to achieve this, an achievement that we are extremely proud of”.
