Flybe on Sky One's Project catwalk
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional low-cost airline has made its Sky One debut on Project Catwalk this month after Kelly Osbourne and a host of budding designers made a visit to the airline’s headquarters in Exeter late last year tasked with creating a new cabin crew uniform for Flybe staff.Led by 25 year old Dan Edwards, a Flybe cabin crew trainer from Paignton who has been with Flybe for three years, the designers were put through their paces to understand the type of uniform they would need to create. The designers were then handed a variety of fabrics and were left to create their uniforms before unveiling them to Flybe and a panel of expert judges.
To discover what the new uniforms would have to endure the designers spent the day in Exeter performing various tasks as cabin crew members, such as performing mouth-to-mouth on a dummy, jetting down the emergency slide and delivering the all-important safety announcement to a group of Flybe staff.
The Task:
For the remaining 5 Project Catwalk’s designers to create a new uniform for Flybe’s female cabin crew
The Criteria:
The uniforms must be: attractive, smart, practical and modern.
The Judges:
Ardent fashion follower Kelly Osborne, top designer Ben De Lisi, Grazia magazine Style Editor Paula Reed, fashion writer Nick Ede and Niall Duffy, Head of PR and Public Affairs at Flybe.
Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer, Flybe comments: “We are very excited about this project and have all been sworn to secrecy about which designer wins the task! It was important for us to show the designers and the watching public what a professional and hard-working cabin crew team we have at Flybe.
“The designers took to their task well and clearly understood the passion and commitment we have at Flybe when it comes to customer service. What happens next is that our own cabin crew will decide if they like the designer’s ideas and we could well end up using them in our new uniform. We are very proud that Flybe is leading the way in fashion for low cost airlines.”
