Flybe hails success of Newquay-London service

Flybe is celebrating its successful launch of the South West’s only non-stop route to London Gatwick. Flybe has announced a ‘Just Pay Charges and Taxes’ offer for booking from now until midnight March 4th for travel between April 1st and 30th June.

With a massive wave of early bookings, Flybe’s seat sales have been hot property since going on sale last December, resulting in load factors that are comfortably ahead of Flybe’s initial forecasts and customers continue to snap up tickets, ensuring they receive the very best value for money fares offered by any airline on this key route.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, says: “It’s great to be here celebrating the early success of our newest London Gatwick route. We’ve recorded 87% and 99% load factors over the first two weekends of operation so we are indeed successfully surfing a great wave of demand. We’re absolutely thrilled with the passenger support and that’s exactly why, today, we’re saying ‘thank you for your support’ with our Just Pay Taxes and Charges offer.

“Our customers are obviously appreciating that, in the current economic climate, Flybe is committed to providing the most convenient, affordable, quality travel options with real value added benefits that are not available from any other airline serving the South West.”

Flybe has determined to keep Britain on the move during these challenging economic times and the new route is proving just as popular with those looking for an affordable, convenient day return to and from the UK capital as it is with those taking crucial business trips or simply choosing longer leisure breaks.

Mr Rutter adds: “Not only can Newquay passengers now connect direct to one of the nine routes we operate out of London Gatwick but also - for the first time ever - they can now book travel though any of Flybe’s 142 interline partners, meaning that the South West’s original airline is connecting the South West directly to the world!* Flybe’s national brand means that, at a time of economic pressure on the West Country’s tourism industry, it can also attract people to the South West in a way no other airline can do.”

Economic Portfolio Holder at Cornwall County Council, Andrew Mitchell, comments: “We are delighted with Flybe’s commitment to Newquay Cornwall Airport. We congratulate them on the success of this key route that plays an important role in the development of airline passenger services in the South West. It supports our belief that the future of the airport is bright.”

Mr Rutter concludes: “We fully realise how important it is for people to continue travelling both for much needed leisure breaks and, now more than ever, to be able to continue to affordably nurture and maintain crucial business contacts. This is why Flybe is 100% committed this summer to doing all we can to keep Britain – and the South West - on the move.

“Not only does our Newquay to London Gatwick route allow those who are looking to take affordable Great British Holidays at home this year, the only non-stop route available to and from the South West, but passengers can also book with confidence knowing they are travelling with the largest regional airline in Europe and third largest slot holder at London Gatwick.”

* This means that, as an example, a passenger booking with one of Flybe’s partners and travelling from Newquay to London Gatwick on to New York JFK can simply book their bags through to their final destination in one transaction, making the transfer at London Gatwick convenient and hassle-free. Other actual interline booking examples include the following routings: Newquay – London Gatwick – Dubai – Manila: Newquay – LGW – Riga (Latvia): Newquay – London Gatwick – Athens.
