Guernsey student excels at 'Flybe Challenge'

Flybe has announced that Jonathan Le Ray, student at La Mare de Carteret, has proved himself to be a real high flier after winning the ‘Flybe Challenge’ at the recent Guernsey Careers Fair held at Beau Sejour Centre.

Jonathan was one of more than 80 visitors to the show who took part in the challenge which required entrants to demonstrate their knowledge of Flybe, as well as successfully simulating a Dash 8 Q400 landing at London’s Gatwick airport. Jonathan scored top marks by correctly naming Flybe’s Chief Executive, Jim French, as well as being aware that Flybe currently operates 14 Embraer 195 and 45 Dash 8 Q400 aircraft topped by flying a very accurate simulated approach and landing.

Jonathan’s prize was presented to him today at Guernsey Airport by Captain Mark Brehaut after which he was also given a personal tour of a real Q400.

Flybe’s Pilot Base Manager, Captain Nick Brown, said: “Flybe has a policy of recruiting Guernsey-resident pilots for our Guernsey base and we regularly attend the Guernsey Careers Fair.

“The ‘Flybe Challenge’ always proves a very popular addition to our stand attracting a steady flow of visitors wanting to test their skill at flying the simulator. Jonathan not only put in an excellent performance but also demonstrated a sound knowledge of Flybe. He is undoubtedly a very worthy winner and we wish him well with his dream of becoming a pilot.”
