London Gatwick-Newquay route boosts SW economy

10th March 2009 Print
Flybe reports that its popular new Newquay to London Gatwick service has attracted strong inbound business in record time. Six out of every ten passengers choosing to fly the only non-stop, multi frequency route to the South West from London originate from the South East, providing a welcome boost in helping sustain the regional economy.

As well as exceeding expectations for overall passenger numbers, the new route already attracts the largest percentage of passengers from the SE than any of Flybe’s seven other London Gatwick routes.

With Spring on the way and Easter just around the corner, bookings for the first Great British family getaway of the year are now being snapped up with people bagging the best value for money fares on offer, such as Flybe’s recent Just Pay Taxes and Charges promotion. There is also the added bonus of being able to add on the airline’s innovative Redundancy Cover Insurance Book with Confidence guarantee at no additional charge on bookings made online during March.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer comments: “Spring has definitely come early to the South West and again we would like to thank all the passengers who have already enjoyed a Flybe flight for their support in making this route such an early success.

“What is particularly pleasing to see is the enthusiasm with which both business and leisure travellers have chosen to fly with us, recognising the convenient, quality service we offer to and from London Gatwick. We are especially delighted to play a role in assisting local businesses during such challenging economic times as well as ensuring that families can afford much-needed breaks with the lowest available fares on this key route.”

South West tourism businesses look set to enjoy a busy long Easter weekend. Flybe is reporting brisk sales for inbound flights to Newquay especially on Maundy Thursday returning on Easter Monday. Flights in the opposite direction are proving popular for weeklong breaks as many passengers take advantage of the enviable selection of seamless flight connections available for onward travel either with Flybe or through its 140+ Interline partners, a valuable benefit not available with any other airline serving the South West.

Adds Mr Rutter: “Unlike airlines that offer an all-in price forcing travellers to pay for something they might not necessarily want, Flybe also offers its customers the opportunity to take personal control of their travel budget by having the ability to create their own fares by only paying for the services they choose.”
