Cancer Research shops benefit from Flybe collection

Staff at Exeter-based Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, have donated hundreds of bags of desperately needed clothing and miscellaneous goods that will be fast winging their way to re-stock a number of the county’s Cancer Research UK charity shops, now the flavour of the month during these cash-strapped times.

Over the past few weeks, Flybe’s employees have been clearing out their wardrobes and cupboards ready for the ‘Donation Station’ collection and the charity’s vans were quickly filled to capacity.

Flybe’s Head of Public Relations, Niall Duffy said: “The enthusiasm with which our partnership with Cancer Research UK has been embraced by all our 3 000-plus employees has been literally phenomenal and the response for today’s collection in Exeter has been overwhelming. Flybe is proud to be working with the world's leading charity dedicated to cancer research and especially proud that we are currently Cancer Research UK’s only airline charity partner.”

"It's like Christmas came early!” commented Jenny Pebworth CRUKs Regional Shop Manager, adding that the donations have already been eagerly received and being sold by local outlets, many of which had been running low on stock. "We're absolutely thrilled to have received such fantastic quality donations from Flybe staff. Their donations will make a huge difference to our shops, our customers will be delighted and we'll raise almost £7 000 as a result! Our thanks to everybody who made a donation.”

Last year, Flybe adopted Cancer Research UK as its chosen charity and, currently its only airline charity partner, has also named one of its Q400 aircraft in recognition of the partnership.
