Flybe scoops lion's share of Gatwick to Newquay market

21st April 2009 Print
Flybe has revealed that its new service from London Gatwick to Newquay has been huge success. Its popularity, by providing the only direct service between the South West and the UK Capital, has not only led to the airline securing an impressive 56% market share after just a month but also towards the incredible 83% overall rise in passengers between the two destinations.

The triple-daily route, launched on February 15th, has clearly struck a positive chord with passengers to such an extent that Flybe has increased frequency on its Sunday service throughout the summer.

Commenting on the success, Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer said:

“Flybe is delighted with the tremendous success of our new direct service from Newquay to London Gatwick. Winning a market-leading share in our first month is testament to the success of the Flybe business model that has not only proved popular with passengers but also helped almost double the traffic on the route. That’s got to be good news for the South West’s economy in these troubling times.”

He continued: “Flybe is looking forward to a busy summer between Gatwick and Newquay. As these figures show, the British travelling public will respond positively to a keenly-priced, punctual product that gets them to and from their destinations without fuss – and, most importantly, without stopping!”
