Flybe supports Cancer Research UK

10th June 2009 Print
Flybe is making on-board collections on all its flights during the month of June to raise vital research funds for its chosen charity partner, Cancer Research UK.

On flights from as far apart as Inverness and Southern Spain, Flybe cabin crew will now be collecting donations on all of its 12 000+ flights operated this month across the airline’s extensive regional network, encouraging passengers to dig deep to support this important cause that directly and indirectly impacts so many people.

Flybe Chief Commercial Officer Mike Rutter says: “Cancer is a disease that touches almost all of us and Flybe is proud to be working with Cancer Research UK in a long-term fundraising partnership. Taking on-board collections for a whole month is a huge logistical undertaking with our staff working together as a really tight team to make a potentially complex feat work in reality over a 30-day continuous period. We are appealing to our passengers to spare a few coins to help us raise a record amount for this very worthwhile cause.”

During its first three months of fundraising since adopting Cancer Research UK as its new charity partner, Flybe staff have enthusiastically raised close to £30 000, that includes some £6 000 donated by generous passengers during a ‘dry run’ for this month’s collections on World Cancer Day in February.

Cancer Research UK Corporate Partnerships’ Manager, Tim Rowland adds: “Flybe’s support for Cancer Research UK so far has been fantastic and the in-flight collections in June are a great opportunity to raise a huge amount of money to help beat cancer. Every penny, cent, euro or pound donated will help us support scientists across the UK, so rather than take all that loose change home with them , we hope all passengers will drop it in the buckets on their way off the plane.”

Flybe’s specially branded Q-400 aircraft, G-JECR bearing the message: Flybe & Cancer Research UK – Together we will beat cancer will be Exeter-based at the start of the month and can be seen operating some of the airline’s most popular routes to ensure the message is spread far and wide.

Adds Mr Rutter: “It is a sad fact that cancer impacts the lives of so many of us. This is why our month-long fundraising effort is so important and, together with our passengers, we look forward to raising many thousands of pounds to help Cancer Research UK continue its life-saving work.”
