VLM Airlines celebrated a significant milestone by carrying its four millionth passenger through its main hub at London City Airport. The carrier is the first airline at London City to pass the four-million mark - underlining its leading position at the airport in London Docklands and the growing popularity of the facility for short-haul business travellers.

The airline's four millionth passenger was Mr Marc Boelens, from KBC, who was travelling on business to Antwerp. Mr Marc Boelens, a regular customer of VLM Airlines, was welcomed by Carol Baker, VLM Airlines' Regional Manager UK and Bernard Lavelle, Deputy Director Business Development for London City Airport, and presented with both a bottle of champagne and a generous number of points for VLM Encore, the carrier's (new) frequent flyer programme.

VLM Airlines only commenced operations in 1993 with a double-daily service from London City to Antwerp, and now offers more flights from London City Airport than any other carrier - with a choice of over 100 services each weekday.

From its hub at London City Airport, VLM Airlines offers scheduled services to 10 destinations in the UK and Benelux. With an impressive record of on-time performance and a high frequency of flights with complimentary beverages and light meals on each one, the airline has become a popular choice for business travellers flying to and from the centre of London.

Johan Vanneste, Managing Director of VLM Airlines says: "We are delighted to be the first airline to reach this historic milestone at London City Airport. Since we commenced operations in 1993, we have pursued a strategy of offering high quality time-saving travel solutions and this has proved increasingly popular with business travellers."

"Last year's opening of the DLR link to London City Airport has only served to enhance the convenience of the services we offer, enabling our passengers to travel effortlessly between London's business districts and this well-located airport."

Bernard Lavelle, Deputy Director Business Development for London City Airport says: "This is a very significant milestone for VLM Airlines and for London City - underlining the growing importance of both to those who travel to and from London by air. We look forward to celebrating the next four million customers and the continued growth of VLM Airlines, as we maintain the development of London City as the most convenient connecting point between Europe and London's business district."
