VLM Airlines launches new route from Rotterdam to Manchester VLM Airlines has announced the launch of a new route between Rotterdam and Manchester, directly linking two major regional cities in the Netherlands and the UK.

Flights will commence on Monday 26 February 2007, with the choice of two services every weekday.

With the start of the new service, VLM Airlines will increase the choice of destinations it offers from Rotterdam Airport to three. In addition to the new service to Manchester, the carrier also offers flights to London City Airport ten times each weekday, along with two flights each weekday to Hamburg.

VLM Airlines' decision to start the service follows extensive analysis of the carrier's existing services between Rotterdam and Manchester which connect via its hub at London City Airport, and increasing demand from passengers to travel non-stop between the two cities.

The new route operates to an ideal schedule for travellers looking to do a full days work in Manchester, with an early morning departure from Rotterdam arriving into the English city at the start of the business day.

VLM Airlines has been based at Rotterdam Airport since 1994, when it introduced its flights to London City. Twelve years later, Rotterdam has become the carrier's largest outstation, with 5 of its fleet of 19 Fokker 50 aircraft, and 84 employees based at the airport. Rotterdam Airport offers many advantages to business travellers, such as short check-in times, ample parking facilities, and easy access from the main cities in the country.

The airline commenced flights from Manchester in 1998, and since that time has seen a growing demand for flights to this major UK regional city. VLM Airlines currently offers eight flights every weekday from Manchester to London City, and at the end of October 2006 commenced two daily non-stop flights between Manchester and Antwerp. VLM Airlines also offers quick and convenient connections between Luxembourg and Manchester via its hub at London City Airport.

Johan Vanneste, Managing Director of VLM Airlines, states: "This new route further enhances the choice of services we provide between the Netherlands and the UK, with 25 flights now offered each weekday."

"We have built a very strong relationship with Rotterdam Airport and believe that this airport has all the right ingredients for business travellers which is why we are convinced that this new route will prove popular with the Dutch business community".

Roland Wondolleck, Managing Director of Rotterdam Airport: 'The new VLM service to Manchester fits perfectly in the profile of Rotterdam Airport, which is aimed at a constant improvement of the airport's contribution to the regional business climate. The international accessibility of the greater Rotterdam area will thus be further improved which contributes in a positive way to the regional development and therefore to direct and indirect employment.
