bmi to start direct daily service to Cologne

bmi regional, officially the UK’s most punctual airline, is to launch a new route between East Midlands Airport and Cologne Bonn. Starting 11 February 2008, the direct six-times a week service will provide the quickest link between the Midlands and Germany, and fills the gap left by the withdrawal of easyJet from the route.

Passengers will also be able travel onwards to other German cities including Hamburg on the flights of bmi regional’s Star Alliance partner Lufthansa.

Peter Kenworthy, commercial director of bmi regional, said: “We are delighted to be launching services between East Midlands Airport and Cologne and we expect the route to be popular with both business and leisure travellers, who will be able to fly with bmi regional and be assured of punctual services on comfortable jet aircraft with great flight schedules and low fares.”

Penny Coates, managing director of East Midlands Airport, said “We are pleased that bmi regional has chosen to start their Cologne route from East Midlands in February. This will undoubtedly be a very popular destination for the business and leisure traveller alike as Cologne is an amazing metropolis on the river Rhine.”

Michael Garvens, chairman of Cologne Bonn Airport’s management board, said: “We warmly welcome bmi regional. The route to East Midlands is an important addition to our timetable, especially for business travellers.”

Cologne, perhaps best known for its fragrant history, is one of Germany’s oldest cities and as well as being renowned as a major cultural and media centre is also home to large trade fairs.

Using modern Embraer jet aircraft on the new route, passengers can look forward to attractive business and economy fares and the renowned bmi regional service, which continues to offer complimentary in-flight refreshments to all passengers.
