Culloden Reef Resort to open on Tobago in September 2008

Culloden Reef Resort to open on Tobago in September 2008 Tobago is a truly beautiful island with miles of golden sandy beaches and unspoilt, protected tropical rainforest. It’s understandable why Daniel Defoe used this lush island as inspiration for his castaway classic “Robinson Crusoe”.

The tropical climate, with temperatures ranging between 23-32 degrees Celsius all year round, is refreshed by cooling sea breezes. Annual daily sunshine exceeds seventy percent and the island lies reassuringly south of the hurricane belt.

Trinidad and Tobago has the strongest and most stable political scene and economy in the Caribbean and, with all of these factors to consider, it is understandable why Tobago is becoming a more popular vacation and holiday home destination for both European and North American Travellers.

Culloden Reef Resort:

The Culloden Reef Resort occupies a spectacular site overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Set within 148 acres of old plantation estate, the resort is surrounded by lush rainforests and has direct access to two tropical secluded beaches.

Culloden Reef Resort has been designed by the international, award winning architects, Denton Corker Marshall and planning permission was granted in October 2006 for the development of this sustainable, high quality apartment and villa resort, providing 5 Star standard accommodation and recreation facilities on a naturally picturesque and unique site.

The central building accommodates a stunning pavilion style bar with panoramic views, a poolside bar and café, a fine dining restaurant, two swimming pools and function facilities for property owners and resort guests to enjoy.

An exclusive spa with its own swimming pool will provide first class treatments and facilities for guests. Planned around the central pool, the spa will offer guests sauna and steam room facilities, a gym, relaxation pavilion, exercise studio, juice bar and treatment rooms.

Guests will also have access to guided nature trails, diving and snorkelling safaris, water sports and other cultural and leisure activities. The resort is intended to be a haven of contemporary luxury but also sustainable in terms of its economic viability and in its relationship with the local community by providing employment and a market for locally sources goods and produce and the preservation and protection of the natural environment.

Designed to be a community in harmony with the beauty of the natural surroundings, the major portion of the site will remain in its natural habitat with pedestrian access by discrete nature trails. Only indigenous plant species will be used for any new areas of planting with the aim of the developers being to maintain and restore the natural environment with as little impact and intervention as possible.

Villas and Apartments:

Property ownership with Culloden Reef could not be easier: with a mix of luxury villas and apartments you can purchase your choice of property for use as an occasional holiday retreat, or main residence in this five star resort. For those looking for an attractive return on their investments, there is a profitable rental management scheme available for all properties

The development will provide 40 five star standard, two bedroom apartments and 50 luxury villas in a choice of size and design. A grant from Pro Invest in Brussels will assist in the early stages of the development of the project concept.

The Villas:

All the villas have been strategically located to take advantage of the views and ensure privacy.

Spacious luxury, describes the exquisite private villas. Designed as a series of interconnecting pavilions to take advantage of the natural topography and the stunning sea views, the villas provide flexible accommodation to owners and guests.

The open plan living/dining room with integrated kitchen facilities provides a relaxing environment leading to a large covered sun terrace that overlooks the villa’s private pool terrace and gardens beyond. This ensures the ‘al fresco’ experience of the Caribbean can be enjoyed all year round. Villas are equipped with five star quality fittings and finishes throughout.

The ensuite bedrooms all have luxurious bathrooms and generous terrace or balcony areas. All villas will be provided with their own private car parking spaces.

The Apartments:

Located nearest to the main resort building, each apartment will be finished to an equally high standard throughout. Each two-bedroom apartment accommodates a spacious living/dining area with discreet kitchen facilities, two ensuite bedrooms of generous proportions and extensive terraces. The apartments are located within a series of two storey block, which take advantage of the magnificent views.

Access:

The resort has good access from both the international airport (35mins) and from the capital, Scarborough (25mins).

International access to Tobago is via the Crown Point International Airport located at the south western end of the island. Direct flights are provided by BWIA West Indies Airways from Miami, New York and Washington and Virgin Atlantic from London, England. Tobago is also serviced directly by a number of charter flights from Western Europe, particularly in the main tourist season.

With the expected forthcoming boom in the Trinidad and Tobago economy it is likely that airlines will expand their existing operations.
