New hotels for Millennium & Copthorne

The hotel is the second phase of the development project and will incorporate a 120-bedroom four-star hotel together with associated restaurant and bar facilities.
Mark Elliott, Chief Executive of Arena Leisure Plc, said: “We are delighted that this planning application has been submitted. The hotel will play an integral role in helping to transform Doncaster Racecourse into a world class leisure and racing venue.”
The hotel is due to open in Autumn 2008.
Sheffield’s newest hotel will also be managed by Millennium & Copthorne Hotels and is also due to open in Autumn 2008.
The 149-bedroom four-star hotel will be built at Sheffield United Football Club’s Bramall Lane ground and will add to the company’s expanding premiership portfolio of hotels situated near to major sports venues. Millennium & Copthorne Hotels currently manage the Millennium & Copthorne Hotels at Chelsea Football Club and The Millennium Madejski Hotel Reading based at the Madejski Stadium.
Sheffield United’s chief executive Jason Rockett said: “Millennium & Copthorne Hotels is a world renowned brand whose commitment to Sheffield, and in particular Sheffield United, is a significant step in the continued regeneration of the city and in particular the Sharrow area.
“We are currently working up detailed design proposals and finalising building costs. It is anticipated that construction activities will start in early 2007 coincidental to concluding a joint venture agreement involving Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc as the operator of the hotel.”
The multi-million pound development will include a restaurant, executive suites and a gym and is expected to take around 18 months to build.
David Curtis-Brignell, Franchising, Branding and Marketing Director from Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, said: "We are delighted to have added both of these properties to our growing portfolio of hotels near high profile sporting venues, offering quality accommodation and services. We are also delighted to be opening our first hotels in Yorkshire. The Group has plans to continue expanding its hotel network in the UK and Ireland and a number of other projects are expected to be announced in the coming months."
Work also starts shortly on the new Millennium Hotel Southampton Ocean Village. The 14 storey iconic building at Marina Development Limited’s prestigious Ocean Village Marina development will benefit from sweeping views of Southampton Water and the Solent, and close proximity to the city centre and will form the heart of a multi-million pound masterplan for Ocean Village.
The 225-bedroom hotel will have water on 3 sides and a unique feature will allow Ocean Village berth holders and visitors to moor alongside and benefit from hotel services. These will include access to the hotel’s spa and gym, broadband communications as well as laundry and “room service” on board their own boats.
Meetings facilities at the complex will include the Millennium Conference Centre (MCC) seating up to 500 delegates with breakout and exhibition facilities. Millennium & Copthorne operates conference centres under the MCC brand in London, New York and at London Gatwick and the specification for these centres is specifically designed for international-class events.
