Warwick International Hotels to manage luxury Bali resort

20th January 2007 Print
Bali Warwick International Hotels has agreed to a long-term lease with Ubud Bali Royal Family members and owners of the Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa, Tjokorda Raka and Asri Kerthyasa.

The luxurious and unique resort, situated in the artistic and cultural heart of Bali, will now become a member of The Warwick Collection.

The resort, which has been renamed the Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa, consists of some 18 uniquely designed villas, each with a spectacular view on the gently sloping valley of the Ayung River, a bar and restaurant, a spa, and other related facilities. The resort is known for its adherence to and respect of the Balinese heritage and festivals are celebrated in a style perfected over generations.

Unlike many other resorts in Bali, the Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa is spread over two hectares of land bordering the river valley with its buildings respecting the original topography and landscape. Every villa has been named after a local flower and many have terraces and sun decks. Each one of them was constructed using natural materials such as local ceramics, wooden floors, bamboo blinds and Javanese glass.

The property blends traditional living with the latest comforts so, for example, all villas are air-conditioned and equipped with ceiling fans while local products are used throughout the hotel such as earthenware pots, wooden dishes and locally produced artworks. All roofs are thatched with elephant grass while some ceilings are covered with bamboo mats. The roof-tops have traditional designs made of “ijuk”, the black fibre of the jaka palm tree, with animal figures such as bulls or snakes.

The resort also boasts a special oval shaped salt-water swimming-pool surrounded by Balinese stone sculptures. The area around the pool is tiled with volcanic rocks with caves built into the nearby hillside. Each of these caves offers clients sofa beds to “cool off” from the midday sun of Ubud.

The Spa offers guests divine experiences enabling them to discover the ancient and herb- based therapies of Bali. There is a variety of different scrubs and massages using local lotions and essential oils such as, cocoa beans oil from Tabanan and green tea lotions from the nearby hillside known for its anti-aging and anti-oxidant characteristics. The Spa is also famous for its unique bubble-making pool built on a structure overlooking the valley.
