Lesbian orientated B&B opens in South Norfolk

2nd July 2007 Print
Woolsey Bridge Farm A South Norfolk farmhouse, dating from 1650, has been restored and re-opened as a Lesbian Orientated B&B. Woolsey Bridge Farm is full of character, with its oak beamed en suite bedrooms, and offers breakfasts and optional evening meals, using home produced or locally sourced ingredients.

Woolsey Bridge Farm B&B is owned and run by Sam Sample and Susan McCulloch.

Sam grows much of the fruit and vegetables which are used by Sue in the kitchen. Sam was born and brought up on a farm in Wiltshire and has given up her successful career in agricultural finance to ‘live the dream’ – living and working in the country.

Sue has had an International Career singing in opera all over the world and is now one of the leading classical voice teachers in the country. She has also catered professionally, something she is equally passionate about!

There is an oak beamed Dining Room (where breakfast and evening meals are served), with a wood burning stove in a large inglenook fireplace and views over the garden. Breakfasts and optional evening meals are available. Home produced or locally sourced ingredients are used wherever possible.

Breakfast might typically be any combination of the following: fruit compote, fruit juice or fresh fruit; home mixed muesli or porridge; scrambled eggs with smoked salmon; pancakes with smoked bacon and maple syrup.

Or a Full English Breakfast with any of the following: local black bacon (molasses and ale cured); mushrooms; tomatoes; eggs; bubble and squeak; fried bread; baked beans, or; vegetarian sausages. Home made bread and toast or croissants with home made preserves and marmalade.

The farm has been tastefully modernised to provide comfortable B&B en suite accommodation. There are three double bedrooms. All rooms have thermostatically controlled central heating as well as tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TV with DVD and bedside touch lights.

The Walnut Room and The Oak Room are both en suite double or twin rooms with views over the garden including the orchard, which has several cherry trees growing; there is also a majestic oak tree at the entrance to the drive and a delightful mature weeping willow tree by the pond. The Willow Room is a cosy double bedded room with a private bath room, comprising a wc, basin and large bath.

The farm is 10 minutes from Diss, a small market town in south Norfolk with a good range of small independent shops and a vibrant Friday market. There is a delightful old coaching inn (The Burston Crown) within walking distance. Norwich, a historic walled city, with its theatre, cosmopolitan shops and restaurants is 35 minutes to the north with convenient park and ride, and served by local bus routes. Thetford with its medieval buildings is 30 minutes away.

There is a wealth of interesting sites to visit from Woolsey Bridge Farm, including:

• The Norfolk Broads, the Waveney Valley, Constable Country and the lovely Sunshine Coast are easily accessible by car.
• A number of golf courses are nearby.
• Excellent cycling and walking country.
• Bird watching at numerous RSPB reserves.

Beyond the main garden is a market garden which Sam is developing from scratch. An orchard of fruit trees and soft fruits has been planted, and the vegetable patch will soon be in production.

The produce served will be home grown or locally sourced. Food allergies, intolerances, vegetarian and diabetic meals can be arranged, in advance, if required.
