UK’s most expensive golf course opens to the public

Loch Lomond Scotland’s new championship standard golf course, The Carrick at the De Vere Deluxe Resort at Cameron House on the shores of Loch Lomond has opened to the public. At £7 million, the course is believed to be the most expensive ever constructed in the UK and will, for the first time, make the Loch Lomond golfing experience accessible to all.

The Carrick is part of the De Vere Deluxe Resort at Cameron House which is currently undergoing a major upgrade and development, which includes The Carrick course, a new state-of-the-art luxury spa and a £25m refurbishment of the five star hotel itself.

The Carrick has been designed by acclaimed golf architect, Doug Carrick, in keeping with its position within Scotland’s first National Park. The par 71 course follows a traditional Scottish heathland style and, uniquely, straddles both the Lowlands and the Highlands of Scotland.

Touring professional Paul Lawrie (Open Champion 1999) has played the Course and comments: “Doug Carrick’s spectacular course layout is a true test of golf. The changes in elevation allow you to enjoy unparallel views across Loch Lomond.”

Guests can choose to travel to The Carrick either by car or by boat onboard the beautiful 1937 launch, Belle Époque, from the hotel jetty. The boat journey takes golfers past the resort’s nature reserve which was created with the input of Scottish Natural Heritage and the RSPB and stretches over 100 acres.

The course fee at the Carrick at Cameron House is £100 and both The Carrick and The Spa are open to day guests. Club membership is also available.

Philip Mahoney, General Manager of De Vere Deluxe Cameron House resort, said: “The Carrick is an outstanding new addition to Scotland’s rich golfing heritage, which we are confident will give players of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy superb golf in a truly outstanding location.
