Claridge’s embraces the golden age of couture

23rd August 2007 Print
Claridges In celebration of the V&A’s forthcoming exhibition, The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957, Claridge’s will be proudly presenting the Claridge’s Couture Afternoon Tea and the Claridge’s Couture Cocktail.

Like a couture gown Claridge’s Couture Afternoon Tea has been impeccably designed layer upon delectable layer. The foundation of the most elegant creations, as every lady knows, is by far the most important and tea starts with the lightest, freshest, most delicious of afternoon tea sandwiches, served with a glass of silken Krug Grande Cuvée. The next layer is a textured fold of organic scrambled eggs topped with shiny beads of Sevruga caviar.

Such richness begs to be cut with maverick precision and an autumnal sorbet in the deepest shades of berry does just that. The skill of the designer becomes apparent once again with the most delicate scones, cream and jam and French pasties, colourful, bejewelled and perfect. The last touch, a touch nearing genius, is a glass of Dom Pérignon 1999.

Claridge’s Couture Afternoon Tea will be served from September 10th until November 24th at £95. A ticket to the exhibition at the V&A is included.

Claridge’s Couture Cocktail will be served in Claridge’s Bar. Deepest gold in colour, it is the smoothest of martinis made with vodka, vanilla vodka and just a hint of raspberry. Claridge’s Couture Cocktail will be £12.50.

Claridge’s is also offering specially tailored opportunities to stay during the Golden Age of Couture, with rates starting at £259 per night, including tickets to the exhibition and champagne, or £630 for a Junior Suite, including the Couture Cocktails, tickets, champagne and a copy of the book which has been written to support the exhibition.

The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947 to 1957 will be open at the V&A from September 22nd 2007 to January 6th 2008.
