Tunch revived at the General Tarleton Inn

16th October 2007 Print
An old family custom called ‘tunch’ has been revived at the General Tarleton Inn at Ferrensby, North Yorkshire, by the owners John and Claire Topham.

Dating back from Claire’s childhood spent mostly on the borders of Lancashire and Yorkshire, her family coined the term ‘tunch’ to mean a sort of moveable Sunday lunch that could start any time from around mid-day through to early evening. It meant the family always sat down together on Sunday but the timings were dependant on who was doing what and become known as ‘tunch’.

And now even Gordon Ramsey has endorsed the importance of the Sunday family meal, so, keen to do their bit to take advantage of this high profile encouragement for families to enjoy a meal all together, the ‘GT Tunch’ has been introduced under Claire and John’s direction for the first time since they took over the running of the Inn and made it their own 4 years ago.

The first ever ‘GT Tunch’ will take place on Sunday 2nd December, where both the traditional Sunday roast will be on offer as well as the full a la carte menu, starting at 12 noon and carrying on all the way through to 6pm.

This flexible and convivial approach to a family meal out at the weekend means that whatever you have planned for the day, there is still time for a relaxed and enjoyable family lunch together. We’ve all heard the ‘sorry we stop serving at 2pm’ or have being hurried out of the door so the tables can be laid for dinner but not at the General Tarleton Tunchtime.

And the GT Tunch isn’t only just available in the run-up to the festive season, as from 6th January early in the New Year, you can make your plans to turn up for the great ‘GT Tunch’ each Sunday from 12 noon until 6pm, so there’s no reason to find yourself limited by conventional lunch time opportunities when eating out with the family.

Make a note to try out the new ‘Great Topham Tunch’ at the General Tarleton Inn, at Ferrensby, North Yorkshire, only 3 miles from the major A1 arterial road, on the 2nd December, and then on every Sunday following after Christmas, starting 6th January, but do remember to reserve your table well ahead as the GT Tunch is bound to get booked up early.
