Christmas festivities at the White Swan Inn
Join the team at The White Swan Inn for a splendid festive season this year where there’ll be plenty of splendid seasonal food and drink, luxurious accommodation, convivial company and a packed programme of exciting entertainment that will keep you happy throughout Christmas and the New Year 2007/8.
The White Swan Inn, in Pickering, North Yorkshire is warm and welcoming, stylish and unpretentious - the food style is simple yet delicious, needless to say mostly local and all homemade, the bedrooms are stunning and the wine list probably one of the best in the country - especially the Saint Emilion collection.
If you feel energetic the rugged Yorkshire countryside is on the doorstep, if not, settle in front of the fire with a book, some board games or a good film. This is a ‘please yourself’ kind of place, things are organised for you in an unobtrusive way - you feel pampered but not pressured.
The festivities start on Christmas Eve with tea and mince pies in front of a roaring fire in the afternoon, followed by a welcome party and carol singing. For those that want to there’s Midnight Mass at the church followed by hot chocolate and Yorkshire Parkin. For those that don’t, snuggle in the snug or chill out in the Club Room, a stunning barn conversion with its huge stone fireplace, exposed beams and very comfy sofas. You can throw another log on the fire, top up your glass and enjoy a game of billiards.
On Christmas Day after a Champagne breakfast, either walk up an appetite or slump on the sofa before a late lunch at 4pm and then prepare for the light hearted Christmas quiz, which is followed by supper. The Boxing Day programme includes an optional trip to the nearby Wetherby races, with a Champagne five course Boxing Day dinner in the evening, and finishing with a Lazy Breakfast on December 27th before departure.
New Year’s Eve offers another programme of delights, with a Log Fires and Fizz welcome on December 30th, followed by a 5-course dinner with champagne and nibbles. And then celebrate New Year’s Eve with a Bang!
Start the day itself with a full Yorkshire Breakfast, and then if you can resist the afternoon tea with Eccles Cakes, it won’t be long to wait until the New Year’s Eve dinner starts off with champagne and canapés, and a 6-course banquet served with specially selected wines from the extensive wine caller maintained at The White Swan Inn. The banquet will be accompanied by music from a modern duet, right up until midnight which ends on the dot with their very own firework display to take you into 2008.
