Hotel puts the romance back into motoring

A Lake District hotel is putting the romance back into motoring with new Classic Car breaks. Storrs Hall, a stunning Grade II listed Georgian mansion set in 17 acres of grounds on the shores of Lake Windermere, is introducing the new breaks in February.

Guests will be able to choose from a range of classic sports cars for a drive around the Lakes. The cars include a 1959 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite MK1, a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine MKV and a beautifully designed 1987 Morgan 4/4.

The breaks will be ideal for anyone who wants to surprise their loved one with a romantic Valentine’s break, or women planning to propose to their partners on the 29th of February.

The Lake District has some of Britain’s most spectacular drives including the 21-mile route, between Windermere and Keswick, which recently came top in a YouGov poll to find the best roads in the country. The A591 takes in the north eastern shores of Windermere, Rydal Water, Thirlmere and the picturesque village of Grasmere, as well as Helvellyn and Skiddaw, two of England’s highest mountains.

A 2-night break in February with dinner, bed and breakfast, plus a bottle of champagne in your room on arrival costs from £478. The rates for the cars start from £105 for one day.

Storrs Hall is the only Cumbrian hotel with the distinction of being listed in Simon Jenkins’ book on ‘England’s Thousand Best Houses’. Over the years it has had many famous visitors including the artist John Constable, William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
