World-famous sommelier to launch gourmet wine dinners

The Square Restaurant’s Gourmet Wine Dinners already boast a popular reputation. Yet, this April, the restaurant – located at the Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Cape Town - is set to launch their 2008 series in a most spectacular fashion with invited honoured guest, world-famous French Sommelier Georges Pertuiset.

Voted France’s ‘Best Sommelier’ in 1980, Pertuiset’s star-studded career has spanned more than 30-years and saw him hold the position as President of the French Sommeliers Association for almost a decade. Currently the only honorary life member of the European Association of Sommeliers, his experience and unrivalled industry knowledge are sure to impress the most ardent food and wine enthusiasts.

Joining the representatives from the estates of Klein Constantia and Meerlust on Friday, 25 April 2008, and those of Ken Forrester and Waterford on Saturday, 26 April 2008, Pertuiset will open each dinner with a discussion on the represented wines of the evening and regale with stories of his experience as a Sommelier in France.

Thereafter, guests can enjoy a four-course feast in the relaxed yet contemporary ambience of The Square Restaurant at The Vineyard Hotel & Spa. With each course tailor-made by Executive Chef Alex Docherty to complement the selected wine to perfection, it’s set to be an evening spent in gourmet heaven!

Two special edition Gourmet Wine Dinners will be hosted to launch the 2008 series. They include the following:

- 25 April 2008 ‘Meet the Famous French Sommelier’ with Klein Constantia and Meerlust
- 26 April 2008 ‘Meet the Famous French Sommelier with Ken Forrester and Waterford

Both evenings are priced at R245.00 per person, inclusive of a discussion from famous French Sommelier, Georges Pertuiset, as well as a four-course dinner at The Square Restaurant complemented at each course by a glass of wine.

The remaining Gourmet Wine Dinners in the series are priced at R175.00 per person (except for the final evening on 3 October 2008, which will be a five-course meal priced at R245.00 per person) inclusive of a discussion from a member of the represented wine estate, as well as a four-course dinner at The Square Restaurant complemented to perfection at each course by a glass of wine.
