Sun Valley Resort garners recognition from Golfweek
Sun Valley Resort today announces that its Trail Creek Course has been voted No. 4 on Golfweek’s state-by-state list of “America’s Best Courses You Can Play.”Originally opened in 1937 and redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1979, the Trail Creek Course rests at the base of majestic mountain ranges and unwinds through a mature Idaho forest with the namesake creek coming into play throughout the round.
“This is a very exciting time for golfers here at Sun Valley Resort,” says General Manager Wallace Huffman. “Not only has our Trail Creek Course continued to garner national acclaim, but we’re also unveiling our White Clouds Course and so much more this summer.”
The White Clouds Course, designed by Donald Knott – the lead architect on Jones’ team during the 1979 redesign – is an “Alpine links” design with breathtaking, panoramic views of the valley below and surrounding mountains. The first nine holes is planned to open this summer with the second nine coming online in 2009.
The state-by-state ranking, tallied by hundreds of Golfweek raters, takes into account overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural setting, greens, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria.
In addition to the new White Clouds Course, Sun Valley will also introduce a state-of-the-art golf clubhouse – doubling as a Nordic center in the winter, 25-acre practice facility, an 18-hole putting course patterned after the putting course at St. Andrew’s and a Symphony Pavilion, which will seat up to 4,000 people.
