Lake District hotel licensed for adventure The four star Low Wood Hotel on the shores of Lake Windermere is launching a series of new outdoor activities for children. The Low Wood Watersports Centre has just been awarded a license from the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) which means its instructors can teach children a number of exciting outdoor activities, without a parent or guardian present.

Adults can now leave their children to have fun in a boat while they enjoy the hotel’s facilities including a pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, solarium and beauty salons.

The Low Wood Watersports Centre is a recognised training centre for the Royal Yachting Association, British Canoe Union and British Water Ski. So the Centre can offer two-day Canoe and Kayak (one and two star) courses and RYA Start Sailing, Basic Skills and Seamanship Skills courses for children and adults.

The courses introduce a variety of crafts and develop skills required to manoeuvre a boat both solo and as a double crew, right up to how to handle boats in moderate conditions and recover someone from overboard.

Prices start from £39 per person for 50 minutes or from £195 for a two-day course. All protective clothing, safety equipment and lunch are provided along with a certificate if the course is successfully completed.

It is also possible for families to hire boats to go out on the lake or to take part in activities such as climbing and abseiling on the climbing wall.

The Low Wood Hotel has 110 rooms, many of which have lake views. There's a selection of bars and restaurants to choose from too, including a Mediterranean bistro.

A break at the Low Wood Hotel for 2 adults and 2 children costs from £105 per night inclusive of Full English Breakfast. Residents at the Low Wood Hotel also get 10% off at the Watersports Centre.
