Longueville Manor turns a new leaf
Longueville Manor is proud to announce the launch of its New Leaf Campaign, the umbrella under which its strong commitment to environmental responsibility will live and take shape. The campaign is a five-point plan that considers the impact the hotel has on its environment, providing focus and commitment to delivering the most sustainable business practice for the future, with particular focus on the following areas:
1. The Environment
2. Education
3. Recycling
4. Water saving
5. Energy
Longueville Manor, with vast natural resources of its own including 15 acres of woodland, is strategically placed in the community to pioneer an environmentally-friendly tourism initiative in Jersey.
“New Leaf is a great step forward for us and something we have wanted to do for a very long time”, says Malcolm Lewis, Owner of Longueville Manor. “Environmental responsibility is becoming increasingly important politically, but also individually for guests, hence for us as a business this is a natural progression in today’s environment but also something we feel passionately about on a personal level”.
The New Leaf Campaign is very much a work in progress. Whilst many initiatives have already been implemented successfully, New Leaf, as its name indicates, is a project that is envisaged to grow and branch out in the coming years to occupy a key position across all parts of the Longueville Manor business.
At launch the campaign will take place on two levels. Firstly, focus will be on educating staff at Longueville Manor on the different aspects of responsible tourism and sustainable business practices; secondly it will work on a visitor level where guests will be encouraged to contribute to the hotel’s efforts by making environmentally sound choices during their stay.
Green packages including visits to the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, cycling and walking trips, as well as visits to the hotel’s kitchen garden, will be offered and national and international environmental days will be observed and marked where appropriate.
The New Leaf campaign comes at a time of great environmental concern and commitment in Jersey, most recently reflected in efforts to make the island plastic-bag free. It also follows Jersey Tourism’s recent partnering with the Green Tourism Business Scheme, whose pilot scheme Longueville Manor, as one of 22 local businesses, has signed up to.
Jersey pioneered green initiatives in 1997, when it became the first “Green Destination” globally, the culmination of a two-year effort which saw the introduction of green lanes, cycle networks and a host of other eco-friendly initiatives across the island.
