New lodge for a new era in Kenya

6th June 2008 Print
New lodge for a new era in Kenya Saruni Samburu is the newest addition to Cheli & Peacock’s portfolio of luxury camps and lodges and the first in Kenya this year. Located on the Kalama Conservancy, 7km from the Samburu National Reserve, the lodge welcomed its first guests from 1st June 2008.

Saruni Samburu will opened its doors with 4 individually designed houses; two family houses with two bedrooms each and two separate one-bedroom houses, all comprising ensuite bathrooms, spacious living/dining areas and a verandah. Perched on the top of a hill, Saruni Samburu will boast some of the most spectacular views Kenya’s Northern territory has to offer, enjoyed from a number of vantage points around the lodge as well as its large stylish infinity swimming pool.

With over 95,000 hectares of uninterrupted African landscape surrounding the lodge – the size of Malta and Seychelles combined - the sense of privacy as well as exclusivity is compelling. A national reserve, private ranch and communally owned group ranch, all within close vicinity of each other will provide visitors with a vast array of wildlife sightings including species such as the famous Samburu elephant, leopard, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, lesser kudu, striped hyena and Grevy zebra.

Being situated on a private conservancy allows them to offer guests a wealth of safari activities all led by superb Samburu guides. In addition to day and night game drives and bush walks, rock climbing, drawing safaris and bush dinners under the starlit skies are available. Further still, Warriors for a Week, is a special programme whereby groups join tribal warriors to spend 3 days trekking through the bush and mountainous terrain learning to recognise animal tracks and behaviour as well as the traditions and semi-nomadic heritage of these local Samburu people.

The lodge has strong community roots too. The land which Saruni Samburu sits on already belongs to the Samburu people, who will also staff the lodge, and who in time will inherit it. Further still, the lodge has invested in technology that will allow them to minimise their environmental impact. Built primarily using local materials it will offer solar generated electricity, recycled rainwater and it will dispose of rubbish in accordance to their policy to minimise their impact on the local landscape.

Saruni Samburu opens with a special introductory offer of £300 for a 3 night stay based on two people sharing including full board accommodation, drinks and safaris activities.

Carte Blanche Travel offers a one week stay starting from £2,940 per person, including international flights, internal transfers, full board accommodation and safari activities staying 3 nights at Saruni Samburu and 3 nights at Elephant Pepper Camp in the Masai Mara.
