11th June 2008 Print
The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort’s Assistant Golf Professional Brian Bergstol recently qualified for the 2008 U.S. Open at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. Bergstol is the first Shawnee professional since Sam Snead to play in the U.S. Open.

In his first attempt at the U.S. Open, Bergstrol finished the 36-hole qualifier at 3-under par (71-68), emerging from a group of 28 players at the Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md., to earn the second of two qualifying spots.

The Shawnee Inn – a member of the Pocono Mountains: Discover Golf’s Great Destination Secret cooperative – is part of an ongoing renaissance in the Northeast Pennsylvania vacation destination. While venerable resorts are updating and enhancing their offerings, they’re being joined by newer properties. In all, the Pocono Mountains offer hundreds of holes of golf by legendary designers such as Donald Ross and A.W. Tillinghast and the modern master, Jack Nicklaus.
