South African lodge offers luxury, the big 5 and ‘frogging’! Amakhosi Safari Lodge - a 5-star boutique safari lodge in Zululand, South Africa not only offers visitors the opportunity to see the ‘Big 5’ game, but also some more unusual activities such as "micro-safaris" and "frogging" as well as overnight walking safaris.

This boutique 5-star safari lodge sleeps a maximum of 16 guests, and offers the opportunity to appreciate some of the smaller natural wonders of the Zulu Kingdom. Where else can you try your hand at a “frogging” or enjoy a micro safari in search of insects and other creepy crawlies? Amakhosi also offers overnight walking safaris, which are rarely offered at other lodges.

The reserve’s terrain boasts an enviable diversity of savannah, wetlands and mountains, and is home to lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, 15 species of antelope and over 420 bird species. Amakhosi’s highly skilled team of rangers and trackers offer fantastic guided game drives and bush walks to ensure guests experience the best of them all!

Amakhosi Lodge boasts:•

- 6 luxurious River Suites, each with separate lounge, air-conditioning and private deck overlooking the Mkuze river
- 2 decadent Umntwana Honeymoon Suites with private plunge pools and hammocks overlooking the river

Facilities include a swimming pool, library, curio shop, dining room, lounge and bar. Massages are also offered. The cuisine too is freshly prepared and fit for royalty. Cultural dancing can be enjoyed in the traditional Zulu Kraal on site.

In addition to the lodge, guests looking for a more rustic wilderness experience can also opt to stay at the Ibandla Bush Camp in a remote region of the reserve. This is an authentic bush retreat for groups of up to eight guests, where meals are prepared over an open fire and the emphasis is on being “at one” with Nature. Two houses accommodate four guests each in two ensuite bedrooms. Safaris are enjoyed mostly on foot, but also on guided game drives.

Amakhosi is a comfortable 5½ hour drive from Johannesburg or 4 hours from Durban and is also well-suited to fly-ins. Children are welcome.
