Sun Valley Resort unveils Sawtooths Putting Course

Sun Valley Resort, Idaho, continues its unprecedented year of exciting additions by unveiling the Sawtooths Putting Course. Joining a handful of similar quality that exist across the world – most notably the Himalayas at Scotland's St. Andrews, golf's hallowed birthplace – Sawtooths received its name and design inspiration from the nearby Sawtooth Mountains that rise thousands of feet above the headwaters of the Salmon River.

Like the Himalayas at St. Andrews, the new Sun Valley putting course is for everyone – from accomplished golfer to beginner, individual to families.

"People who don't play golf can participate in the golf experience via the Sawtooths Putting Course," says Sun Valley General Manager Wallace Huffman. "Simultaneously, accomplished players will find the challenge to be top-notch as this is a true course and not simply several holes cut into a relatively flat, constricted putting green. I can see people enjoying cocktails and having a round of putting before lunch or dinner on Sawtooths."

The putting course is located by the Sun Valley Club – the resort’s new state-of-the-art, 58,000 sq. ft. golf clubhouse which will double as a Nordic center during the winter and has quickly become the hottest spot in town for dining or enjoying drinks. The club’s impressive deck overlooks Sawtooths, as well as the new, expansive 25-acre practice facility.

The White Clouds Course – a new, championship 9-hole layout designed by Donald Knott of Knott, Brooks, Linn Golf Course Design Group of California – opened earlier this summer to critical review. Knott was the lead architect when Sun Valley redesigned its award-winning Trail Creek Course in 1978-79.

The Sun Valley Pavilion, which opened the same weekend as the White Clouds Course, plays host to the Sun Valley Summer Symphony Series and seats 1,500 guests under cover and another 2,500 on the lawn.

The resort expects to break ground on another nine holes to complete White Clouds Course in the near future – bringing the total number of holes at Sun Valley Golf Resort to 36.
