Building work has started on the new spa at The Calabash Hotel and Villas, Grenada’s favourite luxury resort. The new 2,000 sq ft facility, which is costing nearly $1 million to construct, will be completed by Christmas.

The new spa is being built on a ledge overlooking Prickly Bay and overlooking The Calabash’s beach in the south of the island. It will be known as the Heaven and Earth Spa at The Calabash and will have three treatment rooms, all open to views of the beautiful bay, a Zen garden, a chill out area with fresh juice bar, water feature and yoga pavilion.

The abundant natural products of Grenada such as nutmeg and cinnamon oils and other organic products will be used in all the treatments which will include Swedish massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, Reiki and Indian head massage as well as a range of facial, manicures and pedicures .

The Spa Director is Hazel Dawson who comes to The Calabash from the Le Source resort also on Grenada.

From October all arriving guests at The Calabash will receive a complementary half hour shoulder, head and neck massage which will take place either in their hotel suite or in the existing aromatherapy room. The hotel is also working on details of a “Calabash Total Body Holiday” for those who want to get involved in activities such as scuba diving, deep sea fishing and hiking. These activities can be preceded by a yoga session and followed by an assortment of treatments in the new Heaven and Earth Spa. As part of the plan the hotel’s famous Rhodes Restaurant will be offering healthy option menu choices.

The Calabash’s owner Leo Garbutt commented on the decision to build the new spa facility: “The Calabash Hotel and Villas has a very tranquil setting and to have such a wonderful natural location for a spa fits very well with our philosophy of offering guests a totally relaxing holiday.”

The Calabash Hotel and Villas features 30 suites arranged in a horseshoe shape around lush tropical gardens bordering the beach. The resort completed a multi-million dollar face-lift last year and has recently opened five new luxury villas.

All the resort’s suites boast an elegant and luxurious air which, combined with the Calabash’s romantic setting, the courteous staff and the only land based Gary Rhodes restaurant outside the UK, makes the resort one of the finest and most popular hotels in the Caribbean.
