Environmental aware tourism in Basel Environmentally-sound mobility and tourism are the focus of an innovative project by Swissôtel Le Plaza Basel in collaboration with Basel Tourism. Guests now have the opportunity to join guided tours on two-wheeled Segway Personal Transporters (PTs), the first, self-balancing electric vehicles ever developed.

Swissôtel Le Plaza Basel is the only hotel in Switzerland to have Segway PTs and seven vehicles are waiting for guests of the luxury hotel to simply hop on and go. Visitors can zoom around Basel for 1.5 to 2.5 hours, at a speed of up to 15 km/h, enjoying the guided sightseeing tours and discovering the beautiful city. “These Segway tours offer a new way of experiencing Basel and give the city yet another modern attraction”, says Yvette Thüring, General Manager Swissôtel Le Plaza, Basel.

“Three different, attractive routes have been developed by Basel Tourism and we are pleased that we are now able to offer this fabulous service to Swissôtel guests.” Riding the Segway is easy – for example, it starts moving forward when the rider leans forward. And with features such as “dynamic stabilisation”, this state-of–the art two-wheeled vehicle balances itself.

Swissôtel Le Plaza has 238 tastefully furnished rooms and is the largest five-star hotel in Basel. Conveniently, it is also directly connected to Basel’s Congress Centre. Swissôtel Le Plaza provides luxury and comfort for both business travellers and tourists. In the heart of Basel, the hotel is close to Basel’s numerous sights, and only 15 minutes’ drive from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. This makes its location ideal for tourists and business travellers alike.
