Have a wicked time at the Fallen Angel Hotel

29th October 2008 Print
Have a wicked time at the Fallen Angel Hotel If Halloween is inspiring you to think about some devilishly bad behaviour, head to the recently opened Fallen Angel Hotel, in Durham City, where the perfect room awaits you.

The Fallen Angel is a lavish, ten-bedroomed, fully themed hotel on which no expense has been spared. Of all of its fabulous, theatrical rooms, none polarises opinion as much as its Cruella suite - a celebration of the hedonistic, diva style behaviour of book and Disney character, Cruella de Vil (devil if you join it up!).

Black is the order of the day in this room and Cruella’s split personality is communicated through the king-sized, deep-buttoned black velvet sleigh bed, studded with sparkling crystals, and the outrageous black velvet scroll-armed sofa, piped with silver.

Black chandeliers cascade light on to the Venetian glass dressing table and enormous free-standing mirror, whilst in the bathroom, a black canopy dramatically sets off a the dramatic roll top bath and balances out the shine emanating from the old-fashioned, completely over-the-top, chain-pull silver toilet and tank. All this plus your own sauna and steam cabinet with body jets.

This room says drama with a capital D and is one into which guests should flounce, rather than walk, and purr as well as pout. After all daahling, Cruella was supposedly based on over-the-top heiress and socialite, Tallulah Bankhead.

Cruella de Vil was expelled from school for drinking ink, but at the Fallen Angel, champagne cocktails are the order of the day, whether you decide to drink them in front of the fireplace, or do something completely different and take them into your own private sauna.

Then, if your hunger for extravagance isn’t fully satisfied, you can head to the hotel’s bistro. This is simply the place to be seen if you’re anyone who’s anyone in Durham these days and you can spend the evening enjoying wonderful cuisine, but still keep the Halloween theme alive by sitting on a Philippe Starck Ghost Chair!
