Spa breaks for mums-to-be The secluded and tranquil Columbia Beach Resort in Pissouri Bay Cyprus has launched a short break aimed at pregnant women. This award-winning hotel (Cyprus’ Leading Spa Resort, World Travel Awards 2008) is renowned for its luxurious facilities and its stunning private location and now offers specialist treatments for mothers-to-be in the Columbia Spa.

“We know that the Columbia Beach Resort is a haven for people looking for a restful and relaxed holiday, away from crowds and close the calming influence of the sea”, explains General Manager Stelios Kizis. “Most of the staff here have children themselves and understand that the time leading up the birth is often a good time to get a rest. We have created a short break for Mums-to-be, the core of which is specialist spa treatments”.

As the anticipation of the birth builds so can tension and fatigue. Spa Manager Victoria Gladunova recommends their Nurturing Pregnancy Massage to meet the special needs of pregnancy. “Sometimes it’s difficult to get comfortable when you are pregnant.” explains Victoria, “So we offer the option of lying on a bed or having massage treatments in a chair with supporting cushions to aid relaxation. The exclusive Molton Brown oil blends we use will help to regenerate and care for your skin, especially where stretch marks are prone. Furthermore these natural oils help balance emotions and calm hormonal moods, as well as relieve aches and pains, simply soothing and nurturing.”

The Columbia Beach Resort offers a long weekend (four night break) in a junior suite from £325 (€390) per person based on two sharing, including a sumptuous breakfast each day. The Nurturing Pregnancy Massage, which is 70min, costs £100 (€122.00). Flights are not included; Cyprus Airways, British Airways and EasyJet all fly regularly to Cyprus.

The Columbia Spa exclusively features Molton Brown spa products and treatments in Cyprus and also offers the marine-based range Phytomer. Clients enjoy high quality therapies in a welcoming environment – the Columbia Spa is distinctively cosy, quiet and private. This is the place to indulge in the world’s finest exotic plant and marine extracts and a great range of essential oils in its five treatment rooms. There is a spa bath, a plunge pool, sauna and steam room as well as a hair salon.

The heated swimming pool that dominates this intimate and elegant spa flows into the outdoor 80m lagoon style pool. Inside the spa the pool area is flanked by the Temple Lounge with relaxation beds and mounds of pillows. A separate consultation area is draped for privacy. This is a paradise for the body and for the soul, and perfect for pregnant Mums.

The five star Columbia Beach Resort is established as one of the most exclusive hotels in Cyprus set in a stunning unspoiled location on the 2km Blue Flag beach of Pissouri Bay. The hotel is one of only two in this panoramic bay, both owned by the Columbia Hotels and Resorts group.

The distinctive architecture of the Resort is inspired by local Cypriot villages featuring low rise buildings in local stone. The sloping roofs furnished with reclaimed terracotta tiles and the shutters on the windows with an abundance of natural wood give the Resort a discreetly aged and traditional look, landscaped so that old and new blend together. The 94 suites in this all-suite hotel are arranged in 'villas' clustered around the lagoon style pool surrounded by rugged cliffs and acres of vineyards in the valley behind.

The atmosphere is calm, luxurious, away from every day life. Guests enjoy cool marble floors and quality furnishings in natural colours in harmony with the landscape. Some suites have their own plunge pools, all boast the latest technology. Bathrooms are large with double sinks, enormous baths and separate showers. This is the ultimate in discreet opulence.

For a more active break the Columbia Spa offers squash and flood-lit tennis courts, a first class gym and an aerobics hall with regular workout sessions and yoga classes. A great range of water-sports is available in the bay including kite-surfing, windsurfing and water-skiing, where the mid-strength winds and warm clear waters make idea conditions for learning or improving water skills.
