Travelodge and Aldi open joint project in Middlesbrough

Travelodge today formally opened its first dual site hotel with the budget supermarket chain Aldi. The 55 bed hotel on Newport Road, Middlesbrough, is in the same building as Aldi, with the German supermarket giant being the freeholder on the site.

Travelodge and Aldi are working in partnership on another site in Newquay and, with budget bands set to prosper in the downturn, more partnership work could well occur.

Paul Harvey, Managing Director for Development at Travelodge, said:

“Budget brands are well positioned to come out of the downturn strongly, with Aldi and ourselves expecting to see a structural change in both the hotel and supermarket industries. Customers who are choosing to ‘trade down’ to budget are likely to stay with us when they realise both the quality of the product and the value for money they are achieving.”
