Relaxing South Island retreat expands

Relaxing South Island retreat expands Visitors to the stunning township of Glenorchy, at the head of Lake Wakatipu in New Zealand’s South Island, now have more luxury accommodation options on offer. The Glenorchy Lake House, a luxury bed and breakfast and relaxing retreat in the heart of the tiny lakefront settlement, has added an additional third room to provide accommodation for up to eight people, ideal for two families or groups of friends travelling together.

Glenorchy Lake House, the stunning sister property to renowned Kinloch Lodge, sits on the Glenorchy lakefront surrounded on two sides by reserve land, with 360 degree lake and mountain views.

Toni Glover, co-owner of Glenorchy Lake House and Kinloch Lodge, said the lake house was the perfect retreat for visitors seeking home comforts and a place to unwind.

“The whole lodge has been designed with relaxation in mind and the additional bedroom is no exception. All our bedrooms and bathrooms are exceptionally fitted out with our beds designed in layered comfort for the best possible night’s sleep. Guests wake up rejuvenated before settling into a hearty breakfast in the morning.

“Our outdoor areas make the most of the incredible views, and a massaging hot springs spa provides ultimate relaxation after a busy day exploring Glenorchy and the beautiful and walks and waterways in the area.”

As a gateway to some of the finest tramping in the world, Mrs Glover said Glenorchy was a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts or people seeking a place to revive in a tranquil setting.

“We have several world-famous tracks on our doorstep including the Routeburn, Greenstone, Caples, Rees and Dart Valley walking tracks. You can also go jet boating, horse riding, kayaking, mountain biking, fly fishing, caynoning and much more.

“There’s a lot to keep you busy so we’ve created a haven for guests to soak it all up at the end of the day.”

The Glovers are no strangers to providing world class accommodation. Only 20 minutes from Glenorchy, the couple’s other property, Kinloch Lodge, also offers traditional Kiwi country hospitality in a spectacular lakefront setting.

An `Authors Pick’ in the Lonely Planet 2008 and a Rough Guide ‘pick’ for 2008, Mrs Glover said the secret of Kinloch Lodge’s success lay in its unique setting with great hospitality, an amazing story and the range of accommodation on offer.

“From backpacker rooms suitable for trampers and families through to Heritage rooms in a 19th century guest house, the common link for our guests is appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyment of a friendly comfortable atmosphere,” she said.

“Whether they are backpacking or enjoying a romantic getaway, guests feel nurtured but also at home”.

The Heritage lodge has an open fire in a cosy lounge, old fashioned claw foot baths, luxurious beds with goose down duvets to sink into, and fantastic country fare.

“All this and the fact that we’re located right on the edge of the lake, surrounded by mountains in every direction, makes for a winning combination.

“We’re the region’s best kept secret – people who come and stay here absolutely love it so much they’re reluctant to tell too many others about it in case we become too well known!”
