Weak pound sees falling hotel prices

The weak pound has resulted in English and Scottish hotel prices becoming more favourable than in previous months. The price of a double room in London fell by 13 per cent from December to January to 116 pounds per night. In Manchester the average hotel price decreased by 22 percent (from 99 pounds to 80 pounds) and in Birmingham hotel prices dropped by 20 percent (from 86 to 71 pounds).

A standard double room in Edinburgh costs only 91 pounds in January. The average price for a room in the capital of Scotland in the period from June to December 2008 was 118 pounds.

In other European countries hotel prices have increased a little. The price for a double room in Munich is 116 pounds, 16 percent more than in December (100 pounds). In Milan the average hotel price has increased by 15 percent to 123 pounds. Despite the weather, a weekend trip to London is a cheap getaway for January. The most expensive European city in January is Geneva (176 pounds for a double room). The cheapest city to visit in January is Budapest (66 pounds).
