European hotels cheaper than ever says HotelConnect

19th February 2009 Print
Online hotel booking specialist HotelConnect says the recession is driving prices so low that European hotels are cheaper than they have been for years - despite the poor Euro exchange rate.

The company highlights individual hotels in nine of its most popular city break destinations - including Paris, Amsterdam, Venice, Rome, Prague and Reykjavik - where 2009 prices are as low, or even lower than they were in 2001.

For example, in Rome a stay at the three-star Marconi Hotel before 31 March 2009 costs £44 per person per night - based on two sharing - compared to £52 in 2001. That is £8 per person per night cheaper - and it includes breakfast.

"We've compared prices at hotels we worked with in 2001 and are still selling today," says managing director Chris Fraser. "I believe most three- and four-star hotels in Europe are - in real terms - cheaper now than they have been for years."
