An alternative break for Lake District virgins

Ray Blackburn, proprietor of The Derwent Lodge Hotel, has seen a huge increase in enquiries but many visitors are still not sure what to expect from their holidays and are not sure what sort of activities are available or suitable.
“Lots of people view the Lake District with a bit of trepidation and think it’s going to be all boots and beards,” says Blackburn.
“The beauty of the Lakes is that it can be as rugged or tranquil as you want it to be and we help our guests to enjoy it all to the full. My family has owned and run this hotel for 20 years and we can guarantee to give a very personal, insider’s view of this wonderful area,” says Blackburn.
Clients can be picked up from the railway station and then can be looked after every step of the way if they wish. Guided tours can be laid on, either by car or on foot, boat trips arranged and packages put together that include anything from golf to theatre evenings. The hotel can even advise on what clothes are needed and what to pack.
The Derwent Lodge Hotel is in the village of Embleton, just off the A66 between the market towns of Cockermouth and Keswick. The hotel, situated between the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth, was originally an 18th century farmhouse that has now been beautifully renovated and extended.
It has been family owned and run for 20 years and provides both en-suite accommodation as well as luxurious, individually designed apartments. The apartments sleep up to eight people so are ideal for large families or groups. The hotel has a renowned restaurant that provides a wide range of regional and international dishes and uses locally sourced produce whenever possible.
Prices start at £75 for single occupancy and £110 for a double. To find out more log on to the website at thederwentlodge.co.uk.
