A night with Mr Nice at the Vincent Hotel Ever fancied spending the night with “Mr Nice”? Howard Marks, described by the Daily Mail as “the most sophisticated drugs baron of all time”, is going to the Vincent Hotel in Southport on Sunday 31st May 2009, for an exclusive and unmissable live Q and A.

Part of the Vincent Hotel’s spend the night with series of events, Marks promises to deliver an intoxicating insight into his adventurous life as a renowned international marijuana smuggler and talk about the film due to be released next year, in which he will be played by actor Rhys Ifans.

Born in 1954 in a small Welsh coal-mining village near Bridgend , Howard Marks attended Oxford University earning a degree in nuclear physics and post graduate qualification in philosophy. By the mid 1980’s, Marks had forty-three aliases, eighty-nine phone lines and twenty five companies trading throughout the world, all serving one core activity: marijuana dealing.

At the height of his career he was smuggling up to thirty tons from Pakistan and Thailand to America and Canada, having contact with organisations as diverse as the CIA, MI6, and the Mafia.

After a world-wide hunt by the Drug Enforcement Agency he was captured and sentenced to twenty five years in prison at the United States federal Penitentiary, Indiana. He was released on parole after serving only seven years of his sentence and has since become a living legend.

Columnist, comedian, campaigner; there is no-one quite like Howard Marks or “Mr Nice” as he was known by his clients. Unlike his one-man show however, the event at the Vincent Hotel will include a live Q and A, giving the audience a rare opportunity to ask one of the world’s most colourful characters anything they like.

When asked what we can expect, Marks commented: “I’m sure the crowd will enjoy what I have to offer them.”

The event takes place at 7.30pm on Sunday 31st May 2009. Tickets for the event are £20 and available by calling the Vincent Hotel or emailing sales&events@thevincenthotel.com
