The Lake Vyrnwy secret is out
Once upon a time, Lake Vyrnwy was only appreciated by those in the know - just a select few who had stumbled across it – on the edge of Snowdonia – and preferred to keep to themselves the location of this secluded mid Wales beauty spot. But that’s all changed now, thanks to the BBC and this year’s Springwatch which is beaming lovely lingering shots of the lake and its fairytale tower – accompanying Simon King’s daily reports – on to the nation’s TV screens.
Viewers might be forgiven for thinking there’s not much there – apart from stunning scenery and plentiful wildlife – but in fact, as those who have already discovered it will know, there’s a traditional country house hotel and spa with spectacular views of the lake.
To introduce ‘Springwatch Country’, four-star Lake Vyrnwy Hotel is offering a complimentary Champagne picnic to all those taking a two-night midweek half board break this summer (valid from now to 11 September).
For those that book by 21 June there’s also a free £25 leisure voucher which can be used in the spa, bike hire, selected watersports on the lake or clay pigeon shooting at the hotel.
Prices start at £175 per person, based on twin share, including two nights in a garden view room (add £25 for a lake view) with a full Welsh breakfast, plus five-course dinner in the hotel’s Tower Restaurant and the complimentary Champagne picnic (worth £70).
