Black Marlin fishing on Lizard Island

Anglers from all over the world are set to arrive on Voyages Lizard Island later this year for the 23rd Shell Cove, Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic. The Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic is recognised as the foremost tournament of its kind in the world.

Anglers will fish the famous Ribbon Reefs of the Great Barrier Reef near Lizard Island, hoping to tag (catch and release) one of the giant black marlin who gather at this time of year.

This year's competition is taking place from October 24th through to October 31st, finishing on the biggest day in the history of Lizard Island - the Lizard Island Halloween Party at the Marlin Bar.

From August through to December, the waters surrounding Lizard Island boast some of the largest black marlin as they spawn the outer reefs. You don't need to be a seasoned fisherman, as your chances of catching an elusive black marlin are arguably the best in the world.

Black marlin weighing a massive 1000 pounds have been caught and released off Lizard Island feeding off the tuna, mackerels and trevallies found in the tropical waters.

Fishing off Lizard Island is available year round thanks to the luxury Fascination III vessel which operates from Lizard Island.
