La Manga Club hosts Adventure Bootcamps
Double Olympic gold medallist Daley Thompson, former pole vault champion and TV Gladiator Kate Staples, and Nick Buckfield, the British pole-vault record holder, will be hosting the five-day bootcamps between them, giving visitors the perfect chance to get in shape.
Adventure Bootcamps are proven to deliver real results, by improving posture, strength and endurance as well achieving weight loss. There are no diets, fads or theories – just an hour a day, in the fresh air, with like-minded guests and a world-class trainer. Sensible nutritional advice and guidelines are also provided to compliment the physical training and all shapes and sizes are welcome.
Thompson was, quite simply, the world's greatest athlete. Unbeaten for nine years, he was the first to hold the world, Olympic, Commonwealth and European titles at the same time, as well as the world record. He was crowned Olympic champion in 1980 and 1984, world champion in 1983, European champion in 1982 and 1986, and Commonwealth champion in 1978, 1982 and 1986. He also set four world records in the most demanding of multi-discipline events. More recently, he has harnessed his impressive drive and enthusiasm to become a leading ambassador, lobbying to bring the 2012 Olympics to London.
Staples is an inspirational sporting figure – having made a full recovery from breaking her neck in two places – whose achievements in athletics include breaking 42 British records, 12 Commonwealth records and achieving a ranking of eighth in the world for indoor athletics in 1996. A former TV Gladiator, her character, Zodiac, was a well-loved part of the show from 1992-1997.
Buckfield currently holds unbroken 13-year records for both indoor and outdoor pole vault. He was the first British vaulter to jump more than 19ft (5.80m) and holds the record for the best British performance at a World Championship: fifth place at Athens in 1997. His career has taken him to three Commonwealth Games, three European Championships, five World Championships and two Olympic Games, 1996 and 2004.
Each Adventure Bootcamp at La Manga Club is open to all guests of the resort who pre-book and consists of daily sessions, Monday to Friday, for both adults and teenagers. The bootcamps are available from €250 per person and can be booked alongside special promotions giving guests free nights in the five-star La Manga Club Principe Felipe Hotel or the serviced apartments and townhouses at Las Lomas Village.
Daley said: “A lot of people want to improve their fitness but just don’t have the time to do it in their normal life so going on holiday is the perfect opportunity to make a difference. All it takes is a bit of time each morning and you really can make a difference – there’s still plenty of time to relax and do everything else you would normally do on a break.
“La Manga Club’s sports facilities are unrivalled. It’s the best set up I’ve seen on a resort and with the expertise our coaches bring to the sessions there just isn’t a better way to get fit this summer.”
La Manga Club director general Julio Delgado Parejo added: “We are delighted to receive further recognition for our wonderful resort and to have the opportunity to work with high-performance athletes in Kate, Daley, Nick and everyone at Adventure Bootcamps. Our guests can now look forward to the best in relaxation and fitness this summer.”
