La Manga Club hosts corporate giants

12th August 2009 Print
High-powered executives from around the globe jetted in to La Manga Club, southern Spain, for the grand final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge.

Representatives from 17 nations, as far afield as India, Argentina and Mexico, were in attendance, but it was the team travelling one of the shorter distances that emerged victorious.

Portugal’s Nevada Bob’s Golfe claimed the title with a two-round total of 232 Stableford points putting them 10 points clear of second-placed Beacon Investment, from Australia; with Malaysia’s Maybank finishing a further two shots back in third.

The Portuguese team had a two-point lead after the first round but refused to rest on their laurels recording a second 116-point haul, eight better than any other team managed on the final day.

The victory at La Manga Club is all the more impressive given the hundreds of companies worldwide that entered the competition including such household names as Mastercard, Mercedes-Benz and Ernst & Young.

The competition is the latest in a long line of prestigious events held at La Manga Club including the Spanish Open, the Times Corporate Challenge and the Footballers’ Classic.

Three championship golf courses are among the myriad first-class sporting facilities the resort boasts, making it the ideal venue for any number of events.
